 Purpose of Ch'nag'e-6

Chang'e-6 aims to explore the lunar surface in the Moon's south pole region. The lander will collect about 2 kilograms of material from the site. This mission is an important step toward bringing unique and scientifically invaluable lunar samples back to Earth for analysis. US decadal surveys have highlighted the South Pole-Aitken Basin sample return as a top priority science objective.

According to Xu Yi, assistant professor at Macau University of Science and Technology, "I have been analyzing the scientific data from the Chang'e-4 mission that landed on the far side of the moon, and I am excited to obtain new conclusions from the continuous rover data. Therefore, I am particularly excited about the Chang'e-6 mission."
